Legacy

I’ve realized that this website is my autobiography. When my life is no longer an active/creative process – when I become a historical figure, however minor – this website will be my one shot at spinning a narrative. To that end, I will (from now on) make a point to actually publish and/or link to the things I’ve created that I’m proud of – which, at this moment, are few. When I die, no one will be able to get into my computer to access whatever music, essays, photos, etc. I never published. All of that will disappear with me. There’s no such thing as a posthumous release in the digital age – at least not for artists who use strong passwords.

In all honesty, I’m somewhat ambivalent (not indifferent, mind you) as to whether or not I should care (about legacy). And, on a related note, I’m unsure as to whether or not I do care. This website is part vanity, part business card, and part creativity stratagem (trick myself into making content for ‘posterity’, with the ulterior motive being creation for its own sake… I wonder if Marcus used the same trick).
